Activity Report

the Country Wide Clean Up campaign – “Clean Up the World, Clean Up Georgia!” took place in Georgia on 17, 18, 19 September 2010.
The campaign was organized by NGO Consortium - Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of Earth Georgia and EcoVision – The Union for Sustainable Development. The project is financed by Sida (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) and highly supported by The Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia. Minister Mr. Goga khachidze was personally involved in the campaign and actively participated in clean up activities.
Special information flyers on forthcoming Clean Up Campaign were distributed in all Administrative Districts of Georgia. Large advertising banners were installed on all central highways of the country.
Agitation video clip was prepared and broadcasted by all leading TV channels of Georgia.
Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia and other 56 Administrative Districts of Georgia were simultaneously involved in the campaign, among them local municipalities, business sector representatives, students, schools, and individuals. International organization and number of foreign embassy representatives also joined us during the 3-day action. The campaign was held under the motto – Communities caring for nature!
Waste Management Municipal Department at Tbilisi and local Municipalities were also actively involved in the campaign. In particular, all amount of collected waste was transported and disposed on special disposal sites by above mentioned Waste Management Municipal Departments.
According to estimated data about 29655 persons participated in the action all around the country and totally 1013 m3 waste was collected, transported and disposed.
