Puliamo il Mondo
In support of: Clean Up the World Weekend
Category: 4 R's/Waste
Puliamo il Mondo is the Italian version of Clean Up the World. The initiative belongs to Legambiente, the Italian environmental association, which is present on the territory through 1000 local groups of “environmental volunteers”.

The twentieth edition of Puliamo il Mondo which took place last September has been a huge success : more than 4.500 localities and 1700 towns were involved while over 100 thousands of kits were distributed to 700 thousands of citizens. Armed with gloves and rakes, they helped to clean up streets, parks, beaches and rivers , removing wrecks of cars, bikes, abandoned mattresses, domestic appliances, road signs and many more... Everything in an great atmosphere!

Clean up the World 2012 focused on the degradation of cultural amenities. The cities involved were Venice, Rome and Paestum.

Paestum, a Unesco Human Heritage site is also the city- symbol of 'CUTW' 2012 which has been involved in a big project called 'Paestumanita buy and save the environment'. For this reason, the Legambiente's aim is to buy private areas of Paestum and return the beautiful cultural landscape to its original state.

Today only  25 hectares belong to the state, the other 195 hectares are used by private companies which spoil and damage the historical area.In January 2013 the project is going to branch out thanks to many international partners in different countries.
