What is Clean Up the World?

Clean Up the World inspires and empowers communities to clean up, fix up and conserve the environment. Now in our 19th year, the campaign is held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme. It mobilises an estimated 35 million people across 130 countries. We're part of a not-for-profit, non-government, apolitical organisation that unites communities with a common focus to protect the environment. What is the Clean Up the World Ethos?

Clean Up the World Members agree to honour the spirit of Clean Up the World when participating and conducting campaign Activities. We are:
  • Committed to making a positive difference to the community and environment – so your Activities should be inspiring, engaging and respectful of the local community.
  • A volunteer movement - so people cannot be charged to be involved in your Activities nor can Activities be conducted for commercial or financial gain.
  • Committed to the safety of volunteers – so your Activities must be carried out in accordance with the local laws and regulations relevant to your Activity.
  • Uniting communities as part of a global campaign - so participants must respect the presence and activities of other participants in their proximity.
  • A non-confrontational and apolitical organisation – so participants and your Activities must be peaceful and without political connection, content or bias.
  • Welcoming to communities of all nations, cultures, races and faiths – so participants and your Activities must respect political, cultural, and religious difference and beliefs.
  • Non-partisan – so participants and your Activities must not promote partisan, political, cultural or religious viewpoints, or imply endorsement of partisanship by Clean Up the World.

What is the Clean Up the World Weekend?

Clean Up the World encourages and supports its members to undertake activities the whole year round. However our flagship event is Clean Up the World Weekend held every year on the third weekend of September. Learn more about Clean Up the World Weekend.

What is a Clean Up the World Partner?

A Clean Up the World Partner is an organisation that generously provides financial or other major support to Clean Up the World. Our Partners include the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

What is a Clean Up the World Ally?

An Ally is an organisation that shares our vision to inspire communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment and wants to promote the Clean Up the World campaign to its constituents. Our Allies include the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

What is a Clean Up the World Participant?

A Participant is an organisation or group that actively participates in the Clean Up the World Campaign.

What is a Clean Up the World Member?

A Member is an organisation or group that joins the Clean Up the World campaign, receives inspiration, resources and support from our headquarters and organises local activities. Members must also agree to abide by our Member Agreement.

What is a Clean Up the World Volunteer?

A Volunteer is an individual who joins in an Activity undertaken by a Clean Up the World Member. If you want to volunteer for an Activity, please contact the Group who is organising it. You can find them by looking in or our Participant Directory .

What is a Clean Up the World Affiliate?

On this site, Clean Up the World Members can choose to affiliate with other Members. This is a fun way to show support for and connections between fellow Members.

If you are affiliated with another Member your logo will appear on their Group Profile page. To become affiliated with another Member you need to login, visit their profile page and request to be affiliated. That Member will be notified of your request. If your request is approved your logo will appear on their Group Profile page.

You can manage your affiliates by logging in, going to your "Home" area, and clicking on the "Manage Affiliates" tab or buttons.

If another Member wishes to affiliate with you a request will be sent to you via your "Home" area. If you choose to accept their request their logo will appear on your Group Profile page.

Members can choose to cancel their affiliations at any time and refuse any requests for affiliation.

What is an Activity?

Clean Up the World Members organise and carry out Activities to help clean up, fix up and conserve the environment. Examples of Activities include planting trees, cleaning up rubbish, recycling or conducting awareness-raising events. Want to get started?
