Clean Up the World inspires communities to clean up, fix up and conserve the environment. Now in our 16th year, the campaign is held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme and mobilises an estimated 35 million people across 120 countries. We're a not-for-profit, non-government, apolitical organisation that unites communities with a common focus to protect the environment. Do something positive for the planet - join Clean Up the World!
Before you join as a Member or a Guest, you and your organisation/group should understand and agree to honour the spirit of the Clean Up the World campaign when conducting Clean Up the World Activities. We are:
• An apolitical organisation so your Activities must also be apolitical
• A volunteer movement so you cannot charge people to be involved in your Activities
• Committed to the safety of volunteers so your Activities must be carried out in accordance with the local laws and regulations relevant to your activity
• Committed to clean up, fix up and conserve the environment so your Activities must support this objective.
Clean Up the World encourages its Members to conduct activities the whole year round but our flagship event is Clean Up the World Weekend. In 2008, Clean Up the World Weekend takes place on 19-21 September. Get involved!
Clean Up the World has inspired a wide range of participants from every corner of the globe. Our enthusiastic Members include community groups, clubs, schools, businesses, non-government organisations (NGOs), and governments across five continents. We are supported by Partners such as Google and Brambles, and aided by Allies like The World Organisation of the Scout Movement. Why don't you get involved?
Environmental activities carried out by our Members range in scale from local to national. They can be as simple as cleaning up the park at the end of your street or planting a tree, to educating your community to recycle more paper, use less water or get rid of plastic bags. In short, our Members help clean up, fix up and conserve the planet.
Want to be part of the solution to the environmental challenges facing the planet? Groups and organisations from every nation can join Clean Up the World and Membership is free for non-corporate organisations. Start doing something for the planet today. Get involved!
The inspiration for Clean Up the World came when our founder, Ian Kiernan, was sailing single-handed around the globe. He was shocked and appalled by the rubbish he found in our great oceans and resolved to do something about it. Clean Up the World is the result. Bring Clean Up the World to your community!
The campaign is coordinated by Clean Up the World Pty Ltd, based in Sydney, Australia. The team promotes the environmental campaign around the world and assists members with a range of resources and support services in English, French and Spanish. However, ultimately, Clean Up the World happens because of our Members. It's through your efforts that the Clean Up the World campaign continues to grow.
