Clean Up The World

About Clean Up the World

Start today to save tomorrow!

Clean Up the World inspires communities to clean up, fix up and conserve the environment. Now in our 16th year, the campaign is held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme and mobilises an estimated 35 million people across 120 countries. We're a not-for-profit, non-government, apolitical organisation that unites communities with a common focus to protect the environment. Do something positive for the planet - join Clean Up the World!

The Clean Up the World Ethos

Before you join as a Member or a Guest, you and your organisation/group should understand and agree to honour the spirit of the Clean Up the World campaign when conducting Clean Up the World Activities. We are:
• An apolitical organisation so your Activities must also be apolitical
• A volunteer movement so you cannot charge people to be involved in your Activities
• Committed to the safety of volunteers so your Activities must be carried out in accordance with the local laws and regulations relevant to your activity
• Committed to clean up, fix up and conserve the environment so your Activities must support this objective.

Environmental activities carried out by our Members range in scale from local to national. They can be as simple as cleaning up the park at the end of your street or planting a tree, to educating your community to recycle more paper, use less water or get rid of plastic bags. In short, our Members help clean up, fix up and conserve the planet.

How can you get involved?

How did Clean Up the World Start?

The inspiration for Clean Up the World came when our founder, Ian Kiernan, was sailing single-handed around the globe. He was shocked and appalled by the rubbish he found in our great oceans and resolved to do something about it. Clean Up the World is the result. Bring Clean Up the World to your community!

Who runs Clean Up the World?

The campaign is coordinated by Clean Up the World Pty Ltd, based in Sydney, Australia. The team promotes the environmental campaign around the world and assists members with a range of resources and support services in English, French and Spanish. However, ultimately, Clean Up the World happens because of our Members. It's through your efforts that the Clean Up the World campaign continues to grow.
