MUM is a monthly ongoing clean up led by Simba Arts Trust in Mbare Township, Harare.

The suburb of Mbare, on the outskirts of the capital, is not only the oldest urban settlement in Zimbabwe, but one of the most intriguing.Establishment in 1907. Harare city council officials estimate that Mbare has a population of about 800 000, which makes it the most densely populated suburb in the country.Official figures indicate that the whole of Harare has 1,5 million residents, but independent estimates put the figure at as much as four million.

In this crippling economy the township is battling with the issue of waste management and littering amoung others . The municipality is trying to service the township, not so much has some programmes have been implemented to reduce the amount of litter in the environment. However, the problems still persists. Part of the problem is littering. We believe that an awareness campaign is needed to sensitive the citizens about issues around looking after the environment and managing waste for sustainability.

To this end, a clean up campaign is planned for the each last weekend a month.

Phase 1 has already began on the 12th March 2017 Matapi hostels.

Partners involved were Roma Catholic Church “l am Mbare” & Simba arts.
We need as many people as possible to clean up Mbare and raise awareness amongst school kids , taxi commuters and the general public. We need publicity to get people involved, corporate support and the City's Municipality to offer resources for campaign.
